The Pentacle, also known as
the Pentagram, is a symbol considered
both divine and magical in many cultures. Because the ratio of line
segments in the pentacle all equal PHI (or 1.618), the five pointed
star
has always been the symbol for beauty and perfection. Among the early
religions, pagans or country-dwellers, who were rejected by the Church
for worshipping Nature, believed that the goddess Venus and the planet
Venus were both represented by the pentacle. Known also as the Eastern
Star of Ishtar, the planet Venus traces a perfect pentacle across the
ecliptic
sky every four years. So astonished were the ancients to observe this
phenomenon that Venus and her Pentacle became symbols of
perfection, beauty and the cyclical qualities of sexual love.
One of the oldest
symbols on earth, the Pentacle is representative
of the goddess and the sacred feminine.*
