Tara
Pendant
Tara is the central
female deity worshiped in
Tibet.
She has the rank of Boddhisattva
and
blesses and
saves those who pray to her.
Tara, her Sanskrit
name, comes from the
root word "Tar," to cross. Tara helps
one
to cross the Ocean of Existance. Tara is
seated
on a lotus
throne, her right leg and
foot resting on a lotus
flower. Two lotus
flowers are on her shoulders. Her left
and
right hand are in the
form of a mudra
(symbolic hand
gesture). The left
represents
augmentation, the right,
charity and compassion.
