Tree of Life
Blanket
Throw
Britain
was once covered in extensive oak forest, and
reverence for Trees is at the heart of Celtic spirituality.
The "Tree of Life" is an esoteric philosophy common to
many cultures and mythologies. The Ancients envisioned
the entire cosmos in the form of a tree whose roots grow
deep in the ground, branches reaching high into the heavens.
The Tree of Life's interlacing branches symbolize the
continuity of life.

Doves
Blanket Throw
Among many mythologies,
the Dove appears as a
feminine symbol of soul, wisdom, rebirth and harmony.
In the ancient world, the concept of harmony was close
to healing. Peace on earth is written below in some of
the living languages of the Celtic Nations:
Tangnefedd ar y ddaear (Welsh)
Shee er y talloo (Manx)
Re bo cres yn nor (Cornish)
Air talamh sith (Scottish)
Peoc'h war ar bed (Breton)
Siochain ar talamh (Irish)

The Sun
Blanket Throw
Sun symbols belong to the
oldest of all symbols
that people have carved on stones, rocks, bones.
The Celts did not worship the actual physical sun,
who was not represented by any one particular God
or Goddess. They venerated the divine qualities of
the sun - life, light, healing, inspiration, strength,
(inner) fire and illumination.

Dragons
Blanket Throw
The Red Dragon represents
the sovereignty of Britain,
and is the totemic beast of the greatest line of kings.
Dragons and serpents of Celtic religion symbolized
earth energies, potent forces of the land, which polarized
into positive and negative roles. The legend goes that
Merlin revealed an underground chamber containing a
pool, that was the cause of the collapse of King Vortigern's
Tower. Merlin ordered the pool to be drained, and two
Dragons awoke and rose up from the depths, one White
and the other Red. They grappled together in terrible
combat, breathing fire. First the White Dragon prevailed,
but then the Red Dragon fell upon him, forcing him to draw
back. "The Red Dragon will Rise Again!."

Ravens
Blanket Throw
Ravens have a close
affinity with the supernatural world.
They are totem birds of the dark Celtic Goddesses, the
Badbh and the Morrigan, who possess the ability to appear
as one or three beings and to shapeshift into Raven form.
Appearing often throughout Celtic mythology, the bright-
eyed Raven is also blessed with clear vision, and is wise
in the mysteries of rebirth and healing.

Lindisfarne
Blanket Throw
The Lindisfarne Cross is
inspired by the Lindisfarne
Gospels, one of the world's greatest masterpieces of
manuscript painting. Made in northeast England less
than a century after the introduction of Christianity, the
monks incorporated these distinctive intricate weavings
and knotwork patterns into their illuminated gospel
manuscripts. The monastery of Lindisfarne was
founded in AD 635 on a small outcrop of land, now
known as Holy Island, lying among the sands a
mile and a half off the Northumberland coast.

Triskelion
Blanket Throw
Triskele - or Triskelion
- is a three-legged pattern. The
triple form represents the female principle, and is particularly
sacred to the Celts, who used a triple cycle for the seasons
and for many magical patterns. Celtic Goddesses frequently
appear in triple form. From ancient times, the Great Earth
Mother was a trinity, representing her three aspects, Maiden,
Mother and Crone. Spirals also symbolized the coiled serpent
or dragon, both regarded as sacred in the old religion,
representing the natural energies of the earth and sky.
