The Tree of Life
is a geometric symbol that emanates from the Flower of Life.
It has been popularized recently due to the resurging interest in Kabbalah, the
study
of Hebrew esoteric mysticism. While the Tree of Life has ties to many
ancient cultures,
it appeared between the 3rd and 6th century in the "Book of Creation (Sefer
Yetzira)."
The Tree, with its 10 colored points, explains creation as a process involving
10 divine
numbers of God. Together with the associated 22 letters of the Hebrew
alphabet,
the Tree is said to constitute the 32 paths of secret wisdom.
Kabbalah and the
Tree of Life were explored extensively before and after the expulsion
of the Jews from Spain in 1492. Knowledge of this information was used to
better understand
the mysteries of creation and provided mystical revelations about evil,
forgiveness and the aspects
of the soul. The Tree of Life provides one of the most profound teachings
of universal life force energies.
